Great early wake up promised a day where we could make good ground and enjoy an early finish (oh if only).  The afore mentioned Water Witch was weaving her magic, I fell off up the first hill and cut the back of my leg on the front cogs.  When the same happened ten minutes later I realised it was my shoe cleat.  We spent half an hour trying to remove it to fit another, the only result being lots of banging the shoe on the road and bad language, it nearly ended up in a farmers field.  We left it and continued to St Peters for supermarket refuel.  Due to the broken shoe I had to ride into a head wind not clipped into pedals, it is unbelievable how such a minor detail can have such a big effect.  It was such hard work and after 30 miles we were both tired and fed up with the head wind and the lack of things to look at.  We thought we had cracked it when we took a bike path but ended up doing an extra 15 miles on top of our planned 50.  3 campsites were closed.  Headwind continued to pound us.  67 miles we finally made it to Melk.  We decided that was it for one day and treated ourselves to meal out.  Grand Pizza followed by Apple Strudel, perfect.  Polly realised she had missed Alan's birthday yesterday, sorry Alan.  (He normally forgets hers so not too much of a problem!) The ride back to the tent took us past a bizarre black staircase which opened up to nothing at the top and played some deep electro music inside.  Time for bed.
