Overslept till 8.30, obviously so tired we didnīt hear either the bells in the village or Mikeyīs alarm. packed up quickly and had chocolate muesli and bananas for breakfast with the ducks quacking round our feet. Met a nice old guy leaving the campsite who said he used to be an architect but now he is traveling teaching people to tell fairy stories, he was on his way to Salzburg too. The sun was shining and the villages round the lake were all very pretty. We crossed the border into Germany after about 7 miles and had our first stop for coffee in a gorgeous village called Reit in Winkl. we like the way they paint frames round all the windows and doors of the buildings. The ride continued through an enormous national park, with golden eagle signs teasing us that we might see one - no joy. We saw masses of people walking, and even some harassed teachers on a school trip with 20 teenagers on mountain bikes. Saw some other cyclists, but none with touring gear or luggage like us. In fact we havenīt seen anyone else touring since Switzerland, I think they are all sticking to warmer climates. We were loving the lakes, gorges and rock faces until it got to 25 miles and we still hadnīt seen anywhere to get lunch. By 2pm and having done 30miles we were starving and detoured into Inzell to a garage where we got 2 toasted sandwiches each and chocolate bars. The ride after that to Saltzburg was brilliant, massive downhill 10 mile stretch and then a cycle path along the river which took us into the heart of the city with no traffic hassle. had a quick pedal about town then went back out to a campsite on the outskirts, knowing we had the whole next day off to explore - bliss! We arrived at the campsite just as it started chucking it down with rain, and put the tent up with a view to a night huddled in the porch and early bed. Ended up having a brilliant night with a couple from New Zealand, Rick and Chick ( hope its spelled like that!) who are travelling all over the place, making the most of life now their sons have grown up and are also off traveling the world. They invited us for a drink under the awning of their awesome campervan, but after exchanging adventure stories non-stop for a while they invited us to share their food and cook in the campervan with them. We contributed our spagetti carbenara and Chick cooked loads of vegetables (We had brocoli Mums) potato and rizzoles. Brilliant fun to talk in English and find out all about New Zealand as well as more kind offers of places to stay. Looking forward to hearing about their travels through Radio Rick. Stumbled back to the tent with the luxury of a lie-in in prospect.
