We tried to get up early today, but it was impossible, so set off at 10.30am. Cycled 23 miles to Decizes for lunch, having a quick stop at 15miles to eat a packet of biscuits. Managed to find a Carrefore on the outskirts of town and got a delicious picnic and the map required for the next stage of our trip then ate by the canal in the sunshine. Met a lovely couple from Switzerland who were on a canal trip and wanted to give us a lift. They recommended cycling through the country rather than trying to cross the Alps, seems like a much better idea! We left at 2.30 and did an hours cycle to Gannet, by which time we needed more fuel and stopped at an excellent shop called Proxi, which sells everything in the world you could ever need. Continued to Dompierre-sur-Bresbre, feeling a bit worried after locals weren't sure it was open and we were both much to tired to cycle 20k to the next village. Luckily campsite was open, very cheap and lovely hot showers. There was even a telephone so I could ring home for the first time. Brilliant.
made me a bit homesick though!
