Two of our closest friends left town for good. It is kind of like college here, people come and go. It is also like college in that you get close to friends quickly and develop huge amounts of love for people you've only known a short time. And that is exactly what happened to us. Angela and Klaus have abandoned all of us here in Pointe-Noire for such trivialities as dependable electricity and water you can drink from the tap. It was sad to see them go but sadder knowing that they can go to Farmer’s Markets and the cinema.

I was reading your blog as we are possibly being transferred to Pointe-Noire in the near future and found it interesting to say the least. So what is happening now? all of a sudden it just ends . How are things as of July 4th 2010. since it is your Independence Day , hope you are celebrating with some kind of cool alcoholic beverage and friends.
we left, I ran outta steam, let me know if you need contacts in Pointe-Noire, as I still have many friends there:)
Hi!
I loved your blog, I am getting married to a Congolese man (I'm South African) and will be moving to Pointe Noire in just over 3 months, I would love some contacts if you don't mind as I'm really going to need to see some friendly people who can speak English! I can't speak French yet..
Hello, I received an offer to teach at International School of Pointe-Noire, and I came across your blog as I was researching the school. Could you please tell me your overall impression of the school?
Hi there, you must be the would-be preschool teacher? Since David and I have moved on, I am not sure how much help I can be with the school, as the new couple represents a change in the entire staff, I don't know Jeff and Traci personally, but they seem like really good people. The off-site administrator, Nancy is a great person and a straight-shooter. The job itself, the kids, the curriculum, the families, were all wonderful. That being said, life in Pointe-Noire is hard. Life is filled with endless glitches and hassles. If you plan to teach a lesson on the computer, you can bet the computers will break and not work for the next two weeks. If you are an experienced ex-pat with time in Africa already, you should be okay, but if this is your first overseas placement, be ready for some culture shock.
to Lela, I am sorry that I never responded, I didn't have internet at all this summer and then I guess it got lost in the shuffle. I do have a web-site for a ladies club, when I lived there the site was in English, and still is, partly, but I know that the two ladies who run it both speak English, so contact them anyway here is the site:
