Monday  was another beautiful day.  Today we began with morning prayer out in the garden.  Henry and another Henry played their guitars and we sang Spanish songs.  Daniel,
who we met on our 2 previous visits, asked me to read the Gospel.  Then he offered a very nice commentary on it, which Henry translated.

After another delicious breakfast, we got in our vans and travelled about 40 minutes to where the paved road end.  At this point we climbed into the back of 4x4 pickups to drive another 20 minutes on bumpy gravel/dirt roads.  This was actually fun.  Pat started goofing around with a translator named Marlon and this was the beginning of a fun friendship between them.

When we arrived we were once again greeted with a line of happy children and adults.  Today's program included traditional dances, including one by some mothers to EL Sombrero Azul, an anthem from the civil war days which we first heard on our first trip to El Salvador.  We also met a survivor of the massacre of Mogotes (from the civil war).  His name was Pedro and he can't walk standing up because of some illness he got as a child.  But he was very smiley and grateful as he shared his story. He is sponsored by an 18 year old girl.

We were at a school site so I took many pictures of their classrooms.  All the schools are closed for 2 weeks due to swine flu.

After the program we visited homes again.  Today's family was better off than yesterday's, not that this is saying much.  Their horse is starving though and that is hard to see.

We played with the kids in the yard.  Susan had a frisbee and Pat a tennis ball.  Before we left we went back to watch the kids through the trees and they were still playing with the ball and having fun.

Back into the pickups to return to the vans and then CFCA for lunch.
