There were a few sessions I wanted to attend in the morning but we cut out after that. We left at noon.

My uncle James was a Jesuit brother who did missionary work in China during the 40's. When he came home he lived in California and retired in Los Gatos.  He is buried in Santa Clara, just a few minutes from San Jose.  When I saw the signs for Los Gatos I thought of him and emailed the Jesuits asking about his grave.  They told me where to look for the Jesuit plot in the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.

We quickly found an area full of headstones of priests but realized they stopped in the 70's with burial dates.  What we thought was the chapel turned out to be a mausoleum.  So we drove aroudn until we found the chapel, but no headstones nearby.  Hmmm.  Then I happened upon a plot with headstones in the ground only and we split the area up to search.  Pat and Danny were determined to find his burial site.  I was happy to be the one to find it!  So we said a prayer.  Danny found a headstone with a bunch of fake flowers.  He decided that priest would want Brother James to have one and would be happy to share.  So Danny put a flower on Brother James' grave and that was nice because he never gets visitors as there is no family there.  I am so glad I thought of this, and that the kind priest took the time to answer my very last minute email, and that Pat and Danny were so patient in looking for the site.

Next we drove to the town of Napa, which I guess is the gateway to the Napa Valley, and here I had my first disappointment.  It just wasn't what  I was expecting.  It seemed dry and flat to me. We missed our motel on many drives up the main street. I didn't find the people that friendly when we checked in.  Well the kid was, but the mom was short with us. Very basic room, but all you really need.  We went to church and the priest reminded us of of Dr. Kroger on the show Monk (more about that later!)  The music was great.

We headed to the bridge and enjoyed a nice fireworks display.  The town seems very diverse, there was a great crowd for the fireworks.  There were many food vendors, but the hotel had recommended In and Out burgers - we didnt' want a fancy meal .  Pat and Danny were kind of disappointed that they had already eaten when they saw all the choices at the bridge!

Great blog, Ellen. I like your pictures too! It looks like you guys all had a great time. Glad Danny could join you. I especially enjoyed reading about finding Uncle James' site, and Danny placing a flower on his grave. Way to go, Danny!
