We got up early. Breakfast is included in the rate.  One poster at Trip Advisor criticized it as wonder bread. We never buy white bread so it was a treat to have some toasted!  There was cereal, fruit salad, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee in a nice setting so we were satisfied.

Our destination was Point Lobos Reserve which we had heard rave reviews about and is just down the road.  We were not disappointed!  We took the sea lion trail while waiting for a guided trek around Cypress.  So many scenic views. The sea lions are cute.

We had a nice elderly lady as our docent on the Cypress Trail.  The views there were magnificent, not to be missed.  We also got to see some sea otters playing in the ocean.
Next we drove to the parking lot closest to China Beach and walked over to it.  Amazing.
We climbed down the stairs (can be tricky) and had this tiny strip of beach to ourselves.
Danny had stayed back. After enjoying the beauty and solitude for a while, Pat headed to Bird Island and I went and got Danny.  He loved this beach.  We went to a cove on the side and played in the water, and waved to Pat on Bird Island to take our pictures. Then he joined us there and he and Danny had lots of fun taking pictures.

We had to return to our hotel to charge the camera!  Good thing it was so close by.  Next we headed south on 1 to Big Sur, crossing the Bixby Bridge and many other wonderful ocean views.  We splurged for a late lunch at Nepenthe and had great seats overlooking wildlife and the ocean.  Food, wine and service were all great.

Next stop, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State park to see the waterfall (more like a trickle) but the path beyond that offers more incredible views.  Didn't spend too much time there before heading back north for Pfeiffer Beach, which is a 2 mile curvy road trip from the main road and is not even marked.  SO it's not crowded, and it has great surf and sand and once again, is so beautiful it's hard to find words to describe it.  Spent a good deal of time there.
