Our day started at:6:30am then down to breakfast in the hotel lobby.
Modesto is located in the heart of one of the greatest agricultural areas of our nation - the San Joaquin Valley. Dairy products, nuts, fruits, wine grapes and poultry products are some of the top commodities here.

After breakfast at our hotel we ventured out and cruised the streets of Modesto on the famous American Graffiti Cruising Loop on 9th & 10th streets (between G & K streets) downtown. The popular film American Graffiti was based on producer George Lucas' boyhood experiences in Modesto, where cruising was a teenager's way of life in the late '50s and early '60s. We then found Lucas Plaza Statue at the five points intersection of Downey, 17th Street, McHenry Ave. and J St.. At, this bronze statue features two teenagers from the early '60s leaning against the fender of a '57' Chevrolet.

The hometown hero George Lucas was born and raised in the City of Modesto, Stanislaus County, graduating from Thomas Downey High School in 1962. Only a little more than a decade later, he co-wrote and directed one of the top-100 movies of all time.

American Graffiti was released in 1973 with a great nostalgic look back at cars, music and teenage years, portraying an age of innocence in 1962 when the "fabulous fifties" were turning into the “turbulent sixties.” All the scenes in his great movie either happened here in Modesto or were inspired by events in this city.

After a coffee stop at Denny's we visited the blue diamond almond processing center.  The introduction video wasn’t playing in the visitor's center but we got a great deal on a couple of Almond products in the gift shop.

After returning to the hotel we rested a bit and started getting ready for the wedding.

Brittani made a beautiful bride and Raj looked very handsome.  As you will see from the pictures that the wedding took place on the banks of the Tuolumne River on the grounds of the American Legion Hall.  Reception followed in the hall.  Raj’s brother Raul did the cooking and the food was great.  There was Pork Loin, chicken Breast, Tri-tip and all the trimmings.  If I wasn’t so stuffed after the first visit to the buffet I would have gone back for seconds.  When we left the young folks were having a great time dancing.  Back to our room, packed our bags, and called it a night around 10:30 pm.  The end of our 2nd night of our vacation was another great day!

Next Stop Yosemite; It should take us about 2 1/2 hrs. to get there

God bless all the people at the wedding today, especially for the new couple, Brittani and Raj.  May the have a life of happiness ahead.
