I wrote an entry about 5 minutes ago but our time had expired so-----------here I go again.
We had a great visit with Bob and Diana, and Dinnerbell. He/she is their friendly neighborhood rabbit that they feed a couple of times a day. He eats lettuce and carrots practically out of their hands. It is very cute. Thanks for your gracious hospitality -and Diana, I love my manicure.
Our trip to St. George through the mountains of Utah was spectacular. Everywhere you looked was a picture perfect view. Yesterday we went to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. Yes, we know. It is too much to do in one day - people spend days hiking and camping. We have not been able to do much hiking, confining ourselves to some strolls (there is not enough room to carry proper hiking equipment on our bikes). Bryce Canyon was one of our favorites. It has amazing beauty - the hoodoos (fantastic shapes formed through erosion) are fantastic. The Paria River, carrying dirt and gravel, rushes through the canyon and tall ridges called fins emerge. These fins than further erode and form pinnacles and spires called hoodoos. These hoodoos weaken and fall adding bright color below. Hoodoo means to cast a spell and these fantastic shapes certainly do. In Zion roads take you through the bottom of the canyon, differing from the Grand Canyon where you view the scenery from the top. We were fortunate to see some rock climbers scaling the steep slopes.
Practically every day we meet someone with Wisconsin connections. Yesterday we talked with a couple from Arkansas who are travelling the United States for four months. He asked us where we were from and when we said Wisconsin he pulled out a badge and an ID and we discovered he was a retired policeman from Madison. His wife worked at Monty's Blue Plate. A small world.
When I wrote the first entry we were going to Durango, Colorado. We have changed our minds and are going to Page instead. Lake Powell is there. We decided on a shorter motorcycle ride today.
