Where I stayed
Mesa Spirit RV Resort
From the myriad colors of the Desert Botanical Garden, we experienced color of a different sort a few days later -- the red of the Cincinnati Reds who had moved their spring training to the Cactus League in Arizona from their previous spring home with the Citrus League in Florida. The city of Goodyear, AZ built a new ballpark for them and this was their first training season there. Compared to a Cubs game that Pat, Carol and Evanne had attended a few days before, the ballpark was not as crowded -- the fan base here apparently needs time to build up.
Jim had attended Reds games during his Ohio childhood and his parents are still huge fans, so it was a special treat for him to attend a game here. It was a good game with the Reds beating the Giants 10-3, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the 7th inning! We had some of the best seats in the stadium, perfect weather and great companions! I am not a huge baseball fan (this was my first live game since I was 10!) but I admit it was lots of fun. It helped that both Pat and Jim could give me pointers on the game, but more importantly, they served great beer (Deschutes Black Butte Porter - one of my faves from Oregon) there!
