We hope that you find this slice of desert life as interesting and beautiful as we did.
Our next destination was Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument -- halfway between Yuma and Tucson. OPCNM was as well organized and as beautiful as a national park and perhaps someday it will earn that designation. It was here that we learned how many variations of cacti there are and how beautiful they can be. There is a strength in the evolutionary survival characteristics of these plants that we humans could learn from. Although many cannot survive a hard freeze, they can survive long periods of summer drought and bloom in the spring after the rains. We could all use that type of resiliency in these hard times.
