Where I stayed
River Breeze RV Resort
Our travels after Lake Havasu took us to Quartzsite AZ where they were having their annual RV and Gem Shows. We enjoyed RV shows back in Michigan and since we've been trying to decide if we should get a larger trailer, we were looking forward to this. We discovered that tens of thousands of RVers come to Quartzsite and surrounding towns to attend. Every inch of desert land seemed to be covered with RVs dry camping.
The show itself is rather bizarre. There are hundreds of vendors -- in the main tents and lining the streets. These weren't all RV-related either -- from palm readings to funnel cakes to magnetic jewelry to tacky clothing to what looked like things out of someone's storage unit. As for the RV part of the show, we expected new and used RVs to be displayed in one area. But oddly, there were very few around the main tent.
Next we backtracked a little north to an RV resort in Parker AZ because we had free camping there - for the price of a sales pitch (with one of the rudest salesman we've ever had the displeasure of meeting and a Gator fan to boot - boo hiss). Although seeking sun and warmth, we managed to be caught in the record winter storm that caused mudslides in CA (wewere right near CA border). No mudslides for us, but the trailer shook like it was in a tropical storm and the RV resort lost power and water. Fortunately, we were leaving the next day and although several roads were closed, the highway we were taking was fine.
Next stop...Yuma, AZ near the Mexican border.
