After Crater Lake, we headed south along the coast to northern California and Redwood National Park. The Redwood area (which includes federal, state and county lands) abuts the coast and it was amazing to see redwoods next to the Pacific beaches. Redwoods are taller but not quite as wide as sequoias (which we will see later), but they seemed pretty large to us!
The most fun we had was hiking through Fern Canyon. No Redwoods here, but an amazing canyon of old growth ferns along a creek. We brushed with the fame of Hollywood, since the canyon was used in the Jurassic Park movie, "The Lost World." We hadn't brought hiking boots with us, so we had to make our way carefully across the stream by stepping on rocks and logs. Jim loves the challenge of figuring out the best route and I am a great follower!
We loved our introduction to California, but as you know, it’s a very large state and we plan to be here touring for a couple of months. So, more California dreamin’ to come!
