Distance 32 miles   Average 10 miles an hour

 Day 18  7th June

Weston super-mare, Burnham-on-sea, Highbridge, Bridgewater, Taunton , then -(detour to Newton Abbot by train).

What a day and what weather!!!!

Our intention today was to head to Tiverton Park Way as we needed to be home for Friday to go to a funeral of a close friend and neighbour.

Roger has developed a slow puncture on his rear tyre and we had to replace the inner tube in the morning (I think it's all the breakfast’s he’s been eating!)

Well, we were soaked through by the time we got to Bridgewater and we thought it would be a good idea and safe one to catch the train from here instead of trying to push on to Tiverton. However, when we got to the station it was closed with a note on the door saying that they had staffing problems.!! I was cold and the next train was not for an hour and a half and even then we didn’t know if we could get the bikes on so we decided to cycle for another hour and get to Taunton where there was more chance of trains stopping and being a larger station having staff..

What a cycle ride, rain was pouring even harder, the wind picked up, but I must say that most lorry drivers gave us a lot of care as they passed.  We got to Taunton, bought a return ticket and got the train home. It was blowing a whooly by the time we got home, the wind nearly took the bikes from under our bottoms………… Pressure washed the bikes put EVERYTHING in the washing machine and switched on the central heating.

Start again Saturday? We will be going back to Taunton and carrying on the journey from there…..

Oh ! Sorry no pictures today, just getting the camera out of the bag would have been like throwing it in a swimming pool. !!!!
