Today we left Kyoto and caught the train to Hiroshima on the Shinkansen. It only took a couple of hours so we arrived at about midday. We walked to our hostel, K's House which took us about 10 minutes although it felt like longer with our heavy backpacks. The hostel is nice which is reassuring. We weren't too sure what to expect this being our first hostel experience in Japan. But the staff are very welcoming and we were pleased to see that each bed gets its own light and plug socket. Always a massive plus!

We dropped off our things then went back to the station to book tickets for the next few train journeys we would be taking. We then walked through Hiroshima to its Central Park. There wasn't really too much to see here unfortunately as they seemed to be doing a lot of renovation work to it. We didn't spend too long here but decided on our way back to walk around the grounds of Hiroshima Castle. I was more impressed with this castle than Osaka Castle. It seemed much more formidable and I think fitted my idea of how a castle should be. Whereas Osaka Castle is all on ground level, Hiroshima's is on top of a hill and has multiple levels. The grounds also had a really nice looking temple and lots of blossoming cherry trees.

For dinner, we went to a little restaurant that had been recommended to us by one of the girls who works at the hostel. We both had dishes with tempura which is various vegetables, meat or fish fried in a light batter. It's delicious! I've found another Japanese dish that I can't eat enough of - I particularly enjoyed the sweet potato...as did Rikki.
