Wendy, Mason and I went to Nürnberg for the day just to visit. We walked around the area where the Nürnberg trials were held and there was a huge festival going on. The actual room was closed for the rest of the year but the grounds around the building were beautiful. We walked to the Zeppelin field where Hitler held a lot of his rallies back in the 1930s/40s.

It was again surreal to be standing in the same spot where so many historical (however horrible) things happened. We were able to walk to the podium where he gave his speeches, but a lot had been changed. The huge columns had been torn down and the field area was used for other events.

Then we headed back into the city to walk around. We toured this adorable old area that was completely walled in from the rest of the city. There were about a dozen new churches to see, with beautiful towers, doors and details. The streets were packed with people since it was such a beautiful day out. We walked up a few hills to get to the castle/fortress on the top of the hill and had a great view of the city. The gardens were also beautiful and the flowers all over Germany are so pretty.

Then we were tired so we headed back down into town for dinner. We ate at a microbrewery in the basement of a building. The beer was originally made by monks (big surprise) and everything was excellent, it was a small birthday fun for Mason and I. Then we got ice cream and waited for our train back home. It was a perfect day and the city was so beautiful I will definitely travel back.
