Friday 2 September.
After an incident free flight we land at Keflavik Airport. The 40 km bus trip to Reykjavik provided us with a clear view of a barren and treeless   landscape. As we got closer to the capital the housing appeared bland and concrete grey  with the occasional brightly coloured red, yellow or green roof. The architecture lacked variation beyond the boxy look with all windows much the same size. There was an appearance of cleanliness. The temperature is a pleasant but unexpected 16 degrees.

We are staying on the top floor at the Hilton with a lovely view overlooking the bay and surrounding mountains. Momentarily the excitement of arrival is dampened by a check of the football results but Stephen will move on! We head for down town Reykjavik in search of dinner. We chose not to try the roast puffin or whale steak on this occasion but will keep an eye out for these culinary delights as we circumvent this, the 16th biggest island in the world and only Madagascar, Britain and Cuba are larger independent island states. We settle for a 7840 kroner meal of
    2 x dalu
    1 x Braukaf
    1 x letta.portskur
    1 x Sjavarrettapasta

Any guesses as to what we ate. See pics for clues. A stroll along the water front concluded our first day in Iceland. We are excited about the coming 10 days.

Thank you for sending this interesting travel log. I have just read a book set in Iceland and knew of the city Rejkvakvik but how to pronounce it? Rather bland city but what else could it be considering the climate and possibly economic state of the country. Looking forward to more from this country. Have fun.

Good to hear from you and to know that you arrived safely. Great to hear about Iceland - I don't actually know anyone who has ever been there! See you when you get back. Have a good time.
