You may be wondering about the title when the pictures are so beautiful.
To get to Mai Chau you have to take the infamous Highway 6...'the forgotten highway'.
Yes, they forgot to resurface the roads and forgot to teach the locals basic road safety.
I saw so many many accidents on this trip. There is a picture of a bike carrying an impossible load and we are obviously in a traffic jam. As the jam cleared and we inched forward, I realised the cause. There is a bus in the background with two unfortunate motorcycle riders trapped underneath it.
Coming over the top of the mountain heading down into Mai Chau, I glided around one of its many twist and turns to be faced with a motorbike in the middle of the road. It was badly damaged and I feared a hit and run scenario. I desperately searched for the rider(s) and was convinced they had gone off the top of the mountain. My search was fruitless and I can only assume that it had fallen off the top of a bus as they are often transported this way. I pulled the wrecked bike to the kerbside and continued.....slowly.
The trip was worth it as Mai Chau is stunning.
