Where I stayed

We wake to a fine sunny day in Madrid. But, wait! is that a grey cloud I see on the horizon?

The normal morning routines are conducted and my back gives a slight twitch. Must be all that sightseeing yesterday, methinks.

We go down to our delicious Spanish breakfast and after having our fair share of what is on offer we rise to leave. I take 3 steps and the pain shoots up my spine. By the time we reach our room, I am shuffling and grimacing and perspiring profusely. I collapse on the bed amid moans and groans.

So much for our proposed early start for the 400+ kilometre drive to San Sebastian this morning. My mind is racing with scenarios. Last time this happened I was comatose for a week, my body shut down and I discovered the ceiling needed painting!!

The adrenalin starts pumping. This is not a possible outcome. I command to Gail: get the Voltarin, get the Panadol, get the two carry-on wheelie bags that have extended handles.
Progress is slow, but 2 hours later I am inching my way towards reception with my crutches on wheels (now there's a good money making opportunity!).

After checking out, I use the disabled egress from the hotel and somehow insert my body into the drivers seat of our compact class hire car.

6 hours later we arrive at our San Sebastian hotel having actually done some sightseeing along the way. Of course, I went no further than standing outside of the car whilst gripping the door frame but Gail took time to view sights more closely.

Dinner that night was room service eaten in bed (not recommended) and once vertical and fully drugged up the night passed uneventfully.

Oh Phil you poor thing. Feel sorry for you to Gail! Wondered why the latest blog was a bit slow in coming. If they have panadol osteo there get into that along with your anti inflammatory. That advise comes from the husband with the screws in the back! Hope you improve and I look forward to hearing again soon.

Don't suppose you are coming over to Blighty. You've missed the best summer here in decades. No need to go away, but still am slightly envious of your travels. ATB

To all those concerned about me: I'll live!
David, we are close but no cigar! I think it is your turn anyhow to come down under.
