I went rockhounding with my son Brandon, and my good friend Natalie and her family on a brisk April day. Topaz Mountain is in Utah's West Desert and is named after the rocks it produces...topaz! It was my first trip to Topaz Mountain. My first rockhounding experience, actually. It was pretty cool. My son was in seventh heaven. Many of the places I go the motto is leave no trace, take nothing but pictures. Not here. As long as you're not digging where someone else has staked a claim, you're free to take all the topaz your heart desires. Sweet!
