I had a leisurely breakfast and packed at the end of my seek's stay at the Sea Rock Inn in Gardena, Los Angeles. It has been a good week and I have seen much more than I expected to see. I have not done any writing or reading yet as part of my 'study leave' save my movie reviews.

As it wasn't raining, I headed for the beach and was able to easily park ay Manhattan Beach. A brisk walk along the pier to enjoy the surfers and lines of Pelicans flying by was most enjoyable. The beach has an endless series of volleyball courts but strangely no-one was playing on a Wednesday with the skies doing their best to usher in the apocalypse!

I retired to one of the excellent coffe houses in the Downtown area and enjoyed a coffee and a bagel - this has become established as my mid-morning routine. I surfed the web, read the LA Times and enjoyed a break before taking the car back to rental depot just after noon.

I then had a four hour wait in the airport - with no free wifi (boo) for Katrina's arrival. I read, walked and then read and walked some more. At 3:45 she emerged and it was good to be reunited after five weeks. We got on to the Car Rental shuttle bus and returned to the depot to go through the formalities - including the high pressure upgrade for $11 a day (x21!!!) and of course you want to hire a sat-nav for twice the price your can buy them in the UK don't you sir? No! I have my own thank you.

Katrina wanted to see something of LA before we headed north in search of our motel. So we went back to the mortel I'd been staying in to collect my bags and then we joined I110 heading north and spent most of the next 2 hours going nowhere slowly as we gropund past Downtown and picked up I5 to Bakersfield heading north. Hunger got the better of us and we stopped at Gorman for a meal before resuming the trek north through the fragrant citrus groves to Porterville. We eventually arrived at about 21:30 completely exhausted. By the wonders of the interweb our reservation awaited us and we glad to enjoy room 148 of the Porterville Motel 6.
