What I did
Birds Hill provincial Park

Flag of Canada  , Manitoba,
Saturday, April 21, 2012

The forecast was for an 80% chance of rain so we made no great plans. After a leisurely breakfast Vic offered to take me to the Birds Hill Provincial Park - about 20 square miles of trails, swimming and fishing lakes with cross-country skiing in winter.

The Park was practically deserted. When we returned to our car in a car park about the size of two football pitches it was the only car there. The rain stayed away but with a temperature of only 4ºC and biting wind, it was very cool.

The only kind of wildlife that we spotted were birds. We came upon two Red Woodpeckers - quite large and not at all worried by our presence. There were muddy deer tracks across the path but we didn't see any. Canada Geese were also in evidence of course.

It was a brisk hour-long walk which we both enjoyed - only about a 20 minute drive from 'home'.

I got home just in time to watch Saints on my laptop - a very disappointing outcome. One game to go. A week to be spent on tenterhooks. I shall watch the final game next week in Los Angeles. Hopefully it will be a little warmer.

This afternoon we are going to watch the second instalment in the Trilogy series - being reviewed here. This evening some of Vic's friends are coming around for a film evening when we will watch Monsieur Lazhar.

Tomorrow I will be accompanying Vic to a church in Winnipeg at which he is speaking - I am looking forward to my first experience of Canadian Mennonite worship.

It is good to see you are having a little space and a more leisurely day. It has gone cooler here as well, but not 4 degrees C. Very disappointing Saints result. Are they deliberately trying to keep us in suspense?

Yes - the pace has been relentless but my appetite for new places and experiences remains undiminished. This is the movie intensive week. Cinema this evening, a pile of discs back at base ready to watch. My host over 3600 movies in his shelves - makes me feel good about my comparatively miniscule collection.

Currently killing time downtown in a Starbucks waiting for a used DCS store to open. Thousands of movies at $3!

Hope all is well. Good to see we have our new Bishop onboard now. Nice copes.

Take care
