I was on my way to the cinema (to see Salmon Fishing in Yemen) with the daughter of my hosts when, proceeding in a northerly direction along South Street at about 20-25 mph, a massive pickup truck pulled out from a car park on the left straight in front of me. "He's going to hit" I yelled as I swerved to the right and into West Street - but unfortunately BANG - he clipped my rear quarter.

He just didn't see me coming. Thankfully I avoided giving him a broadside - that would have had more catastrophic results! No airbags were deployed and we dealt the matter in a calm way - no-one was hurt thankfully. However, he called his wife to make sure he was doing everything right and when she learned that I was a foreigner and in a rental car she told him to call 911 and get the Police there.

In a scene reminiscent of 'Alice's Restaurant', Officer Marcos duly arrived with lights blazing and took down all the particulars. She fined the other driver and confirmed that I was in the clear and that she would be saying that in her official Police Report to the insurance Companies. Perhaps his wife will now regret calling for the Police? Mercifully the car is drivable and the lights are okay - but there is significant damage to 2 of the panels, as you can see. The pickup truck is virtually unmarked - just another small ding to add the many it already carries!

The paperwork took so long that we missed the cinema! Officer Marcos was very polite, efficient and helpful as she reassured me that I was not in the wrong. Thankfully when I called it in to the rental company they confirmed that I had maximum insurance cover and would have nothing to pay. Some good news at least.

So, that's Saturday's excitement! Oh that and nearly seeing Saints beat Pompey!

Ouch! Glad no-one was hurt ... and that you eventually got to see Salmon Fishing in West LA! Have tried to post comment about that film but not sure it 'sent'??? Anyhow, blessings and prayers go with you on your travels. Am off to see Marley tonight to offset a grey and cold Romsey. Enjoy the sun... Jax
