What I did
Newport, Marlow, Keene & Manchester NH
a couple of places I stopped in were Newport and Marlow. Newport claims the widest Main Street in the USA - and yes it is wide. There are some more pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/duncanstrathie/
I had planned on having lunch in Marlow - but oddly for an American town (village?) there was nowhere offering food! I did stop to take some photos of the Odd Fellows Hall and War Memorial
The roads were largely empty and trundling along at 45-50 mph allowed plenty of time to take in the scenery. There were constant warning signs announcing Deer or Moose Crossings - I hate to think what an encounter with a Moose at speed would result in, a Deer is bad enough!
Last night I had the privilege of accompanying my hosts to the home of the local Rabbi to join a largely non-Jewish group to celebrate Passover and Shabbat with a Seder Meal. this was the first time I encounter one of these and it was both a fascinating and instructional event. The Seder Meal retells the events of the Exodus so that younger generations will be reminded of the Jewish struggle for freedom and peace. The liturgy we used was comprehensively inclusive and brought all peoples of the world together in the search for peace and justice with prayers asking that both Israelis and Palestinians would be able to find a home to call their own and co-exist peacefully together. The food and company were both excellent.
