What I did
Concord & Portsmouth

I began the day by exploring Main Street in Concord and enjoying the striking State House with it's brightly gilded cupola glinting in the sun. It wasn't much above freezing and the strong wind (out of the north-west) was biting. As advised by a friend from Salisbury, there is indeed a Birkenstock foot-ware shop on Main Street! There was also an amazing record/CD/DVD shop with thousands of second hand discs - i saved hundreds of dollars by spending any!

It was so cold that I retreated to the car and drove off in particular direction but found myself heading for Portsmouth. My hosts had recommended a visit there, so I continued east and duly arrived - after a brief detour into Maine! It was quite a surprise to find a town with this particular  name that was actually pretty! Nice little shops and plenty of restaurants - most of which served sea-food. So I headed for an Indian restaurant and enjoyed a fairly decent curry - withdrawal symptoms had begun to set in!

The journey home was via Manchester! It is really odd encountering so many British (and other) place names. What is even more strange is that they are not in the right place! Portsmouth is east of Manchester which itself is east of Peterborough and north of Londonderry!! I had spent the day blundering around, beholden to my GPS/Sat Nav, so when a visit to a target Store presented the opportunity to buy a map, I seized it - I also bought a jumper for $6!

I got back just too late to make it to the Seder Meal at my hosts church - St Paul's in Concord. I am however looking forward to tomorrow night's at the home of the local Rabbi.
