What I did
St Stephen's Church
A quiet weekend enjoying good company. It was good to have the opportunity to catch my breath and slow down for a bit - especially as cool rain was falling outside! I've already taken over 600 photos and backed them up onto DVD.
Today I had the privilege of worshipping at my hosts church - St Stephen's Port Washington. The main service with its procession, palm fronds, amazing choir and solists was a great way to begin this Holy Week - more pageant and ceremonial than I am used to - but probably more fitting with shouts of Hosanna! What's more, I got to preach!
This afternoon I changed lodging and am now enjoying the ample hospitality of Ruth-Ann and Michael. I was treated to a concert staged by the Long Island Baroque Ensemble featuring Louise Schulman - viola and Bill Zito - guitar playing a selection of pieces by Giuliano. The concert was at Christ Church, Oyster Bay, the home church of the Roosevelt family where the President's pew is preserved amidst newer acquisitions.
Tomorrow it's back into NYC - the weather forecast is good!
