well hello again!!

gosh its a warm day - 27degrees in the shade with a breeze (thats the only place i can find a reading!) i'm hiding out in a cute little internet cafe with a cold iced drink =) i have so much to tell you all!!!!

Ok so back to Auckland, on our last day we spent the morning doing admin stuff, annoying but at least its all done now, so bank account, check, tax number, check, travel pass for buses, check!

In the afternoon we jumped on a ferry across the water to Devonport (a suburb of auckland, way out on the penisular, so much so i thought it was an island, until i said this thought out loud and steve corrected me!).  The ferry ride was quick but beautiful, i cant explain to you all how blue the sea is, and even built up Auckland seems to twinkle in the sun!

Devonport was so cute, little township with a wharf where we licked delicious hokey pokey icecreams (famous in new zealand, gorgeous but still not sure i could tell you what it is, kinda caramelly...) and headed through the little main street to one of the hills on their - mount victoria. A little steep mount with a fort on top.  There is a winding road up it, a steep footpath winding the other way, which way did we go?? we scrambled right to the top straight up of course!!! a slight challenge in flip flops but stunning when we got to the top.  It gave panoramic views across the harbours and islands all around auckland, the grass was so bungy and green we lay down and took it all in, unbelievable, the different blue shades of the sea, the bright white houses hanging onto the hills on the islands, and auckland, the mother of them all.  A lovely end to our time in a beautiful city.

The next day we headed out bright and early to catch our bus up north - called the naked bus, steve refers to it as the nudist colony we had to join for cheap travel...haha i assure you its not, its similar to the mega bus in england - very cheap intercity travel - with cool drivers and air con! woop! the travel up to Paihia (pie-here) was amazing, it took us four hours, i cant think the distance warrants taking that long but mountains and valleys stand in your way! we wound up and down and occasionally through mountains, forests on either side giving way to huge areas of farm land.  I have to say on some bits I was quite nervous, massive steep drops away from the road, no barriers or fences just trust in the driver! it was stunning.  Then we slowly dropped into the bay of islands, you have never seen anything like it in your life...the blue blue turquoise sea and islands, as if they have been scattered into the sea, tropical little bits poking there heads out! we pulled into the little seaside town and pottered along the road to our hostel.  The peppertree backpackers, its so cute!! amazing outdoors areas with BBQs and a big lounge and the best equipped kitchen I've seen! the people are lovely, we've met people from Sweden, Germany, Israel,  China and America, i do love this way of life. The first evening was pottering around the town...maybe another icecream =)... and a bit of shopping for food, but i have to tell you about yesterday..

ok its sunday so the internet cafe is closing so will have to update you asap but to give you a taster it includes dolphins, speedboats, kayaks, sailing, bbqs, swimming, star gazing....

i'll tell you all as soon as i can, lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxx
