Back in Kochi just in time to go to the movies - those who can must see Om Shanti Om - we had great fun but of course in India you can still yell, holler, cheer and boo at the screen - the ticket is 50p in the balcony and the popcorn 10p
As we had half a day we arranged to go to the school whose kids we had met in Ooty; we actually took up their invite - it was in Chetala which is an hour south of Kochi - we got a lift their with our Group leader who was going south on a pilgrimage and was actually born there. Anyway this is a non tourist town it appears to make things from coir and this secondary school had never had a foreign visitor so 500+ kids mobbed us but much fun was had and the staff were so welcoming and grateful. We now have a gift of an image of the founder (very slightly like a jelly mould!). We found our way back on the local bus, again everyone helpful and curious.
we also picked up our new glasses and you are warned that Liz has the CD of Om Shanti Om....

So a great trip and southern India highly recommended for all the usual reasons - sites, smells, people, cheapness - but also so lush and the Nilgiri Hills were a lovely surprise. If you go do make the effort to visit orphanages and if you get invited to a school take it up,
