Side trip to Rottnest Island from Freo. Crossed over on dive boat and saw a submarine on patrol ( a scary looking tube). All abit windy and diving was Ok but a bit kelpy and shallow - 2 good wrecks in the afternoon; Liz had trouble equalising.
Stayed in youth hostel that was former Army Barracks - had a the former Engineers Room; Rottnest is very laid back & after 8pm all we could order in the hotel/pub was Pizza & beer - such a chore. There's no cars a free shuttle bus around and lots of bikes. There really are Quokkas (small rat type wallabies) everywhere which are very tame at one pont Liz had to shoo them off the road to let the bus go by. Another day's diving (& Pizzza) and on the last day we hired a tandem - now it had the turning circle of a destroyer and didn't like the cross wind but we had a fun day (why is everything suddenly uphill?)
