So an almost inevitable taxi ride from the airport; I told him the name and showed him the Korean address and he takes us to somewhere else. I then give him my glasses as he can't read the address I gave him - much squinting later we make it. This imbecile also had TV on the dashboard next to the SatNav.
I wasn't sure the Kimchi Festival was on or where it was as its website was not very helpful but after more taxi hassle we found it, having done the nearby National Museum first - predictably a large new building. Now Kimchi is basically fermented cabbage and somewhat of a national dish. Amazingly we stayed at the festival all day
- we did the 'foreigners cook a Korean Pancake'; Liz's tossing impressed
- 'foreigners make Kimchi' - along with more photos & interviews and the 'result' in a container
- the food stalls
- a tourist survey with seaweed as a reward (they need to learn from that)
- lunch of Kimchi Spaghetti (without the Kimchi)
- the festival 'MasterChef' event
- lots of music & acts on the stage, and
- the folk museum on the site
A good day. Our Kimchi was 'left' in the hotel room fridge.....
The hotel is in suburban Gwangju & its surrounds were a little odd & sleazy but we found a bar with western food but they still allow smoking in bars here so it was a bit fuzzy. They were also a couple of 'special' karaoke bars, bizarrely called BMW & Audi.
