Safely arrived at this heritage Dutch hotel Serena & I found on the net - we turned down the Ibis/Novotel & it's lovely (until we discover the adjacent mosque at 4am). We do the local palace (istana mangkunegaran) & the antique market before the drive out to Candi Sukuh & Candi Cetho temples.
It is the rainy season but it is usually tropical, heavy & short as you would expect but it came at 12 rather than 4 today so it was temples in the rain. Lovely area with tea plantations across the hills as far as you can see (reminded us of Kerala).
We had a lazish afternoon - the local optician re-screwed my glasse for free & we hit the Mall. This is clearly 'new Asia' as the supermarket in particular could have been anywhere in the west. Java in particular is developing fast & this is comparable to Malaysia rather than some other SEAsian/Indian countries.
