The route into Switzerland wasn't to bad at all, the long climb into the county and the first set of mountains was a worry, it was noisy and predictably steep. But as the map suggested it soon leveled out and we pottered along through the national park area taking in the spectacular views. We didn't stop as we would have had to get some Swiss currency and the noise in the van really needed sorting out before we killed someone or each other, it was Austria or bust. We did at least get some Swiss chocolate when we filled up with diesel on the card, and yes it was much better than the chocolate at home.

Later that evening after the leisurely drive we headed towards Innsbruck even if they couldn't help we weren't far from Germany as final back up before we gave up and shipped the van back home! So we stopped at one of the first service stations and slept with the trucks. Austria is so clean and tidy again it was as good as many paid sites, it was immaculate and we slept like babies.

We set off to Innsbruck fingers crossed, it was really wearing us out again and I half expected to be turned away time and time again, but the ultra efficient Austrians didn't fail us, the first garage we tried jacked her up, welded the crack and found another problem caused by the the blowing pipe, fixed that too and gave us a posh coffee while we waited. The guy was amazed with all the mechanics in Italy and the so called reputation they have we had so much trouble, I'm glad we told him he didn't seem to excited about fixing the old girl at first but our Italian tale seemed to spur him on! The bill was expensive with the additional problem caused but it was sorted and we were back on the road, which seemed a whole lot quieter.

We are off to Germany now to see some new sights, we have been to Austria a few times as we have stayed in touch with with the the original owner of the van when we brought it off ebay and drove it back to the UK. He's from Linz and if he was at home we would probably have headed east to see him and some of the country we haven't seen before, but he is in Canada taking his own year out, the van must have that effect on its owners!

not enough freebies
Can't believe you're comparing Italy to your gorgeous Sharon! We want more words from her! Got your funny phone call but can't stay at home waiting for next one. Got to go to New York! You'll just have to talk to Anne who isn't going. We heard about your new haircut in Morrisons in Nantwich - amazing how news travels! Steve says lose the pony tail. I can't believe more people aren't commenting on your blog - do they email you in secret? Even swiss Tony is a fan! love steve and anne x
