We collected dad at Venice airport in glorious sunshine, he thought he'd hit the jackpot, we hadn't seen a cloud for weeks and it looked like it would stay that way all summer.

We decided to head straight to Slovenia after we collected Dad, we thought it would be cheeper staying on sites and just cheeper in general, crossing the border the weather held out and we camped near a stop at Kanal. I think Dads intention is just to have a relaxing break away from the UK and take in the area, driving through Slovenia was really enjoyable and it was a reminder of how lucky we were seeing things in a light we had probably started to take for granted.

But good things don't usually last forever and for the first time since the spring it rained, boy did it rain, not monsoon weather or anything just relentless, we tried moving along to get away from it but it just kept following us through the country.

We did stop for a few days at lake Bled, a place Sharon especially wanted to see on the tour. We did get a few brakes in the weather to at least enjoy the area a bit. The camp site we stayed on was just by the shore so it was easy to ride round, its a stunning place and with the clouds looming looked very dramatic. I would have liked to go for a swim but the temperature dropped way down to the mid 20's! So at least we are getting use to the heat for Australia, we were bloody freezing!

Dad was still enjoying the break and regretted only buying a return flight for the week, so looking at the map we had a plan to head to Budapest and for Dad to get a cheap flight back from there a week later. But like all good plans things don't quite work out as you imagine, the rain was set in and looking at the weeks forecast the whole of Europe bar Spain and France were due for rain aplenty. We got as far as the capital Ljubljana but the rain had finally wore us down. It not to bad when two people are confined to the van, but three with the extra luggage quickly starts to wear you down it seemed pointless going further and if we headed back to Italy we may at least get a break from the rain, Dad would be close to Venice if he decided to go on his booked flight or we could head another direction if he decided to stay on from there.

So that was it for Slovenia, its a small country anyway and we'd had a good drive round and got a feel of the place and its dramatic scenery, we would have loved to do some rafting or walking but on this occasion it was just not meant to be.
