After our supposed 'fast boat', where was the fast in 3 hours, we landed on Koh Tao, our diving paradise. We were transported by one of the usual touts to the Coral Grand Resort where Wayne did his best to haggle over prices only to realise that all prices on Koh Tao have been set so they cannot out do one another. We did, however, manage to get them down on the room rate from 300 to 200 BHT. Now, if you know the currency exchange it works out at roughly $2.5, but let me tell you, that is a small fortune when you are travelling, a meal, a nights accom elsewhere etc.

We booked our Open Water Course and waited anxiously for it to commence...............

We were joined by Sonny and Gida, a lovely Danish couple and our instructor Tod, a rather large American chap and we set about doing the preliminary reading and paperwork.

With so much reading in store, homework aaaaaaaagggggghhhhhh, this was sure to be a long couple of days. The first dive in the sea, can't count the swimming pool, was daunting. Tilly nearly opted out as claustrophobia took a grip but was soon pulled underwater by Tod and she actually started enjoying it. 3 dives later, 1 exam and we were qualified Open Water Divers, just Advanced to do next!

We had a great time on Koh Tao and stayed on North Sairee beach, an area with little restaurants and bars glistening like beacons on the beach with their pretty fairy lights and lanterns. An eclectic mix of sights and sounds from chilled out music to fire eaters performing a difficult art with the ease and grace of a swan.
