Quite possibly the worst road we have ever encountered to date. Nine great hours in a sticky old mini bus traveling along bumpy, unmade, dusty paths (that were just passable). Apparently, the Airlines pay the Cambodian government not to improve and upgrade the poor excuse for a road with a proper tarmac surface. This is because if the road were upgraded then the journey by road from Siam Reap to Thailand would only take about 2 hours (rather than 9) this in turn would kill the airlines business to Bangkok by air!!!!! After the worst road in hell, customs out of Cambodia, customs into Thailand and waiting for the next coach on the Thai side, we eventually arrived in Bangkok 15 hours later at 10:30pm!

In summary we have met some great people and had some exciting adventures along the way resulting in us no longer feeling as green as we did when we first checked into the YHA Moscow exactly two months ago.

Like Vietnam, Cambodia has been at war relatively recently but tourism here has not quite taken hold as much. Cambodia is certainly a country of reflection, where past and present sit side by side. Side-by-side like magnets and therefore trying to break free of yesterdays evil force in favor of today and the future. A smile is never far from the Cambodian's faces and considering the heinous crimes many have witnessed, they are so welcoming and relish a brighter future!

We still have so many more places to see and are looking forward to bring you stories from them all via this portal. After Cambodia, Thailand will feel a little easier to travel through which has its upsides and its downs. We are so looking forward to seeing new places and especially bringing those listening in 'Tales from Laos'.
