So Joy and I thought we would find ourselves a little bit of paradise before hitting the big city of Salvador. We decided on Caraiva which is about 2 - 3 hours south of Araial DīAjuda by bus... The bumpiest bus journey of my life so far I might have to add! I was physically lifted out of my chair a couple of times but somehow still managed to fall asleep for part of the journey. The landscape was beautiful on the way although my eye caught sight of some herds of cows... Very anorexic cows!! They are so skinny compared to British/Belgian cows and even have a bit of neck flab.

Once the bus dropped us off we boarded a little boat to cross the river which took us to Caraiva which only has sandy roads, which means no cars and only mules in sight. Such a different picture to the busy streets of Rio De Janeiro!

They days there were easily spend... Waking up in the morning, sunbathing on the beach with the occasional dip in the sea, going for some lunch, reading books in the hammock, a bit more sunbathing, playing peekaboo with white small fist sized crabs, freshen ourselves up, going for a bit of dinner, bed and that would be it! It was a little bit of heaven on earth.

We arrived in low season and it being such a small little town (In the guidebook it said there was no electricity after 10 pm although there was. That happened at some point last year so we have been told by another traveler.) meant that we were pretty one of the only travelers: we were often the only ones in the hostel, the only one in the restaurants, one of the few on the beach, etc. Tranquil to the extreme!

One thing was reconfirmed however... I hate cockroaches! Yep... Itīs never a pleasant experience to see a crawly thing crawl itīs way past you whilst going for a wee... Whilst I was obsessive over the cockroaches in the bathroom Joy was really into her mosquito killing in the bedroom. A right pair we make...
