...It's a lazy morning. I am now heading to MARTA - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority - for a train to Avondale and stop by Druid Hills for lunch.   I know...I know...food is always on my mind...but nothing identifies a group of people better than food.  There are several Ethiopian restaurants popping-up around here - within one corner of the street.

Ok, I know what you are thinking...Ethiopian...they are not known for food.  All we ever heard about is the famine there.  This is why travelling or experiencing other cultures for even a short while is interesting to me.  I have experienced Ethiopian cuisine in Washington DC many years ago.  It was anything but interesting.  But I am not discounting it this time, I am about to give it a try again with a fresh pair of eyes.  Desta means 'happiness' in Ethiopian (Amharic) - a local neighborhood restaurant.  Its setting is pleasant enough.  Vegetarian samplers and a signature dish with fish awaze - these are to die for…

Apparently, Ethiopia was never a colony but was occupied briefly by Italy during WWII - some of the drinks and desserts are strongly influenced by the Italians.   I am now a happy girl and inspired to visit Ethiopia one day... Keep on checking my blog - who knows... Ethiopia might show up!!!

...With happy stomach, I am now heading to midtown, where there is the bulk of Georgia Technical Institute, or simply Georgia Tech, the infamous Piedmont Park, Botanical Garden... If it starts to sound touristy... then you are right.   I am here in the Peachtree corner after all.  A quick stop by Piedmont Park, great place for a lazy afternoon hang out or morning run.  But next to it is the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the buzz for this place is the canopy walk - curious to see the truth.  Nothing but disappointment for the canopy walk - the rest of the garden is pleasant enough for a stroll - but the entrance fee can put a dent in anyone's wallet - so watch out!!!

It's now late afternoon.  I am heading to Mary Mac's Tea Room - an Atlanta institution for over 65 years.  I always hear about it whenever I am in Atlanta.  I don't mind to stop by there for tea... Surprise... this place is not a tearoom.  It is more like a restaurant and the line is out of the door.  I am over excited... everything must be good here.  Look at the menu - I go for the Southern traditional dishes - sweet tea, fried chicken, collard greens, and spiced apple.  What can go wrong?  They have been doing these dishes longer than I am alive.  Celebrities, heads of state, politicians and you name it have eaten here.... OH GEEZ - this place makes Kentucky Fried Chicken look sooo good.  On any given day, collard green dish from my house is much better - considering southern cooking isn't an everyday occurrence for me.  After getting out of Mary Mac's my body literally falls into a diabetic coma with sweet tea and the basket of baked goods.  Carbs and fried food are making me feel sluggish.  No way, I will ever find myself here again!!!

After Mary Mac's, all I want is to take a walk to burn some of those mega calories I just consumed.  Fox Theater - here I come - only a few blocks away from Mary Mac's - why not?

Hotlanta is no longer hot - it has cooled down a bit as the cold air is blowing...
