When we left Nosara, we were hoping to get to Monteverde as quickly as
we could, but we weren“t quite sure if we were going to Monteverde or
Arenal, and we also thought there might be a chance to see some mass
turtle arrivals at a different beach north up the coast.
So we took a bus heading to San Jose, and got off in Liberia, the
cowboy capital of the Guancaste province. Not much to say about
Liberia except that we had some damn good fried chicken there.
We took the first bus in the morning heading to Monteverde, land of
the famous cloud forest reserve. We came here to do the canopy tour,
which is something like 14 zip lines and a tarzan swing through the
cloud forest. Also, we might see some nature, but we“ve seen so much
already that we“re getting kind of jaded.
Upon arrival, the bus dropped us off in the middle of town and
immediately about 5 people came up to us trying to get us to go to
their hotels. Right in front of us we saw some hand written signs in
Hebrew at the hostel/tourist info center and then this guy comes out
and asks us where we“re from. When we tell him Israel, he immediately
starts talking to us in Hebrew and between his welcome and the signs
in Hebrew telling us to go here, we decide to do it. Paying $5 per
person per night for a nice bed and hot showers wasn“t too bad either.
Tonight we did something different - a night tour in the cloud forest,
with a guide, for the first time. It was awesome. We saw lots of
animals (mainly insects and other creepy crawlies). Ido“s favorites
were the sloth, who we saw doing his lazy sloth thing in a tree and a
tiny yellow/orange frog. Phoenix“s favorites were the bat and the
giant salamander (no good pic of that one, sorry, or of the sloth - it
was dark and raining!).
Tomorrow is the canopy tour. We are excited and ready for an adrenaline rush.
We“ll write more soon!

Love
