wow! moose, loons, mountains  and lots of water. we are about 20miles south of greenville, maine which is where the tip of moosehead lake is located. it is the largest lake in maine,  40miles long and 12miles wide. it is undeveloped for the most part. some restaurants and stuff in greenville on the tip of the lake and some houses but mostly undeveloped shoreline and mountains. greenville the biggest town around has one blinking light . we kayaked there one day for about three hours so we didn't see that much of the lake, but it had a couple of islands and a large mountain. beautiful. the north woods is an outdoor haven for fisherpeople and kayak and canoes, hunters, hikers, and alot of atv trails. the appalachian trail runs through this area.  every place we go we love. but we think "where would we like to spend a summer?"  and so far it is a tie between the adirondacks and moosehead lake.  but we haven't been to the coast yet.

we love our campground. for a private campgroud, we had a very large spot. woods in the back. it was very hot while we were here, in the high 80's and that feels like high 90's to us southwesterns. the mornings were nice and in the afternoon we went to the campgrounds pool. there is also another lake about a mile and a half away, called pipper pond.  phoebe had a nice swim in it. (i'll try to put a video on)  when we got here on a sat, the campground had a ice cream social (yep, they sell ice cream here, as well and green mountain coffee) but i have to take a little break from the ice cream so we didn't go. but the next morning was a pancake breakfast and we went and met a very nice couple.  that nite they had movie nite outside but too many mosquitos. that's the problem around here in the north woods, mosquitos. we are spoiled living in santa fe in that regard.

it was so good to see our friend julie, she is living in la now but was on the east coast for a wedding, so she drove up here to visit us and spent two nites. we both have been missing our friends so much so that helped some. .

apparently maine celebrates christmas in july, especially at our campground. we saw christmas decorations on some of the sites here and i at first was pretty judgemental and laughed and thought the whole thing was tacky, but than i read about christmas in july. even the camp hosts are putting up decorations! what a hoot. now, i think it's pretty fun!! we love it here and hate to leave, but we have been waiting two months to get to the coast. so, here we go!
