Where I stayed

Had to leave Banana Azul for final time.  Said some teary goodbyes (well, not really but it was sad to have to leave such a relaxing place) to Michel, Franklin and crew.  Jumped on bus at Puerto Viejo bound for San Jose (about 5 or 6 hrs journey).

Great bus ride! - particularly 'interesting' about 1 hour out of San Jose coming up over the mountains - getting dark and very foggy.  Slightly disconcerting  - usual story of bus driver overtaking on blind corners etc...  I knew he couldn't see jack $hit and we were very high up.  We passed more than one landslide which made your imagination run wild with various scenarios.

I was witness to a girl from Latvia having her necklace ripped off her in Limon (we had stopped to change buses and were walking from one drop off point to the main bus terminal).  Limon - I knew it was nasty.  I yelled out for the police (in my best Costa Rican accent) and some police actually showed up only to look nonchalantly on as we pointed out the offender.  They were more interested in chatting us up (and the Latvian girl was there with her boyfriend).  I figure it was of quite some sentimental value since she was in tears not to mention it's quite distressing having some lowlife rip something from around your neck.

I stayed at Casa 69 in San Jose - this great hotel is run by a lovely German gay guy, Kurt.  Lovely smile - what a honey, what a shame :-)!  I think it's about AUD$35/night.  I ended up having my hair cut (for free) by a gay guy from Oz.  Turns out his cousin is Leah (or Leah's girlfriend?? Julie??) who house sits for my sister, Deb, in Cooroy sometimes.  I have a photo of her border collie dog, Stella, from years ago.

Bloody small world!!
