6am Left Bocas del Toro via the spell-binding canals / wetlands towards Chinguinola.  Gorgeous waterways with loads of water birds (Herons etc..) and the odd traditional family paddling their kids to school in little, narrow canoes.  Supremely peaceful until our kamikaze captain sped through at about 80km an hour.  Still, it was supposed to be a water taxi, not a sight seeing boat which was a real shame because I would have loved to have spent a day just wandering around the waterways at a relaxed pace (definitely would have been worth getting the camera out).

Went back to Banana Azul Hotel near Puerto Viejo for two nights - nothing too spectacular to report there except more amazing food, great staff, great room and a very relaxing time (highly recommend Banana Azul even though Puerto Viejo is a bit of a shite hole).  Neil and Jess came to stay on the Friday night - great to have their company and I think they enjoyed being spoilt (even if it was for just one night).  Neil and I went on a photography expedition but it didn't prove too fruitful.  We could hear a bunch of howler monkeys but couldn't find them.  Found a heron or two in the river.  No armadillos to be seen (I had seen a dead one a few weeks before - somehow it had managed to get itself squished on a road where there are a maximum of 5 cars per day - let's face it, that's ridiculously bad luck and his time must have been up poor little buggar) - would have loved to have seen a live one and they're definitely in the area (or perhaps the last one had been run over - nooooo!!!).
