Where I stayed
Belkis's place in Sooke
Met Beverley's friend Belkis and her daughter, Karyl and Belkis' new man, Don. Great company and we had a wonderful few days just hanging out and playing tourist.
Port Renfrew was beautiful - quite mystic with moss forests, weeping trees and amazing rock pools surrounded by huge kelp beds which encourage the odd humpback whale along the shores - we were lucky enough to spot two as we were walking along. We got to witness their serene surfacing for about 30 minutes as they cruised along the coast (VERY close to the rocks) - no spectacular breaching but simply amazing all the same. They are such huge, peaceful beasts. I believe they were feeding. Got the odd piccy but you can only really see their backs and the water spouts. Still, the piccys mean a lot to me!
Butchart Gardens (not far from Victoria Airport) were fantastic also. Amazing flower gardens - just checkout the pictures - much easier than trying to explain it. Expensive to get in (about AUD$40) but if you're a flower lover, it's definitely worth it. Was raining a little which turned out to be a photographic advantage - great shots of Bev, Belkis and Karyl with the cute umbrellas etc...
