Where I stayed
After 3 plane journeys we finally arrved into bali and within our first 20 minutes we got scammed at the currency exchange desk, shouted at when we didnt give any money to 2 guys who carried our bags for us, and charged 3 times as much as we should of been for a taxi ride to our hotel, we definitely aren't in australia anymore!
We have speant the last four days in a grogeous hotel just relaxing and trying to adjust to the way of life around here, and we now love it. our first day was a bit daunting, you cant walk 10 metres here without nearly being ran over by a scooter, or have someone come up and try and sell you something, but its all part of the culture here and we appreciate that now. we even tried to join in by hiring a scooter for the day to have a propper look round the area. we are never doing this again. the roads here are completely crazy and after 10 minutes of being constantly beeped at and nearly falling off atleast 5 times we took the scooter back to the guy who gave them us and decided to get a taxi! it was a very funny experience though, and atleast we now know that scooters are not for us!
the streets outside our hotel is full of market stalls all selling bintang vests and dodgy designer gear, we have purchased a few bargains and we enjoy bartering with the stall owners to get the cheapest price possible! we still cant get over how cheap things our over here, we have been eating like kings for around 3 pound a night we get a starter and huge main, with a couple of beers and fruit punches aswell, this makes a really nice change to the rediculas prices of australia! we have tried to be adventurous with food and make sure we eat indonesian dishes. our favrite so far is called soto ayam and is a big bowl of soup with noodles, potatoes, vegetables, a bioled egg and pieces of chicken and costs about 70p! we have also tried afew strange things from the street food carts!
now we have settled in here and got used to the scortching heat and humidity, we are going on a day trip tommorrow with the lady who owns a resaurant next door, she is taking us to see the "real indonesia". we are going inland to ubud and stopping at temples and waterfallls which we are really excited for!!
apart from that there is not much else to report, i bought a new camera for a bout half the price it would have been in england, so you will still get to see pictures! oh yeh and we have also adopted a stray kitten we found and he comes to are room every night, so cute! also last night adam ordered a curry and said "make sure its extra hot please" as you can imagine it blew his head off and he was dripping with sweat after the first couple of mouths full, he forced himself to eat it though! i had one taste and couldnt feel my lips for the rest of the night, i also stupidly picked up the chopped chilli with my fingers then touched my face so my whole face was on fire, so we both had to run back to the hotel to put our heads in a cold shower, the waitress thought it was hilarious!
love and miss you all, will blog again soon to let you know how our indonesian experience goes!!

Sounds like a real culture shock! Good to hear you're beginning to enjoy the country and adapting; keeping off the scooters sounds a sensible decision and hardly the image for a biker chick!
Looking forward to seeing the pictures.
Love Dad

just got back from tenby to read both blogs - brilliant as ever. I didn't tell dad that you were going on a scooter so he was really relieved when he heard that you had taken it back pretty much straight away! scorching in tenby and really strange without any kids - only took carol and I half an hour to clear up instead of the hours clearing up after you lot. Jim now in sunny Buckinghamshire and apparently going to a royal wedding party in windsor on friday. We're having a party at the Frosts and have bought £1 tiaras so as not to outdone by waity katy coming back down the aisle! miss you loads and counting down the days now until you are back. Love mum and dad (home alone and empty nested and no kids!!!!!!!) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
