So it has been a while since the last entry and quite a lot has happened!!
The road trip got off to a scetchy start when I was the designated driver for the staff party after camp and I got pulled over for the police and tested for drink driving - clearly they do noot comprehend the concept off designated driver! I actually think it has a lot to do with the fact that the summer staff at Rocky Mountain Village double the population of Empire and the police had nothing else to do and could not believe that we would be so responsible and so they pulled me for the sake of it. It shook me up a bit though and so when we left on the Sunday I was a VERY cautious driver!! Our first day took us to Moab in Utah which is the nearest town to Arches National Park. It is stunning and I urge you all to visit it at some point. We went into the park (for free as it was the weekend or something!) to watch the sunset at 'delicate arch'. that night we stayed at a hostel which we had booked as it advertised twin queen bed rooms for just $30 total - the picture showed us twin queen beds and so we were excited - we got to the cabin and it was actually a home made twin BUNK BED!!! Crazy times! The novelty factor made up for the fact they had lied to us - it was supercheap after all!!

The next morning we got up at 4am to be back at Arches in time for sunrise. Once again we got in for free - this time because we were so early. We had miscalculated by an hour and so we were there in plenty of time to take come cool photos in the arches in the dark with the moon and the stars. I will try to get some up later on. Once the sun had risen we had a spot of breakfast in the park and then hit the road once more for Las Vegas!!  That was a long straight drive through Utah and Nevada and we made it into Vegas at about 6pm. We checked into our rediculously cheap hotel and had nap as we had been up since swo early. In the evening we had some food and then headed down the strip in the bright lights to see the famous spots and to end up at the fountains outside the Bellagio.

The fountains were really good fun, they sounded like fireworks when the water rushed out of the tops of the fountains at such high pressure. What I hated about it was the non-stop sensory bombardment, sounds, lights, smells even and it was HOT being in the dessert and all. Also, there were people out at 11 at night with their very young children in push chairs who just wanted to sleep but couldn't because of all the sensory bombardment. It was an experience, I am glad I have at least seen it but the huge change from the amazing natural beauty I had seen that morning and I did NOT like it!!!

The next morning we hit the road again, down through into California to San Diego. I loved San Diego - it is by the sea, chilled out and so varied (and different from Vegas!!) we stayed with a friend of Ben's from camp for the first night. We headed straight down to the beach and stood in the sea which was great!! Then we grabbed dinner and a few rum and cokes at a beach-side bar, it felt like being home - I have missed the sea while I was in the mountains!!!! The next day we headed to sea world and enjoyed a very cheezy whale show (Shamu!!!) and we bought our road trip mascot - Alfie a Florida Manatee. He is great fun and it is nice to have a new character in the car with us!! :) That night we stayed at Dennis and Cindy's house (a retired couple who volunteer at camp every year). We went to see their nephew perform a music set at a local hotel and then we had a driving tour of San Diego. The following morning we headed down to the Mexican Border where we took photos at the fence (and put a foot through to touch Mexican soil, we then headed up the coast to Los Angeles. About whicch I will tell you at a later date!

Photos to follow, love you all!
