Today will be a short blog as you know, we decided to spend a second day in the area, so we had a bit of a lie-in and started a little later.   Phil went for a run along the beach before a breakfast of Muesli and yoghurt, which was all a bit too healthy so it was followed by a bacon butty!   Chrissy had a conversation in the shower block and discovered that the shots we had heard during the night were crackers set off by Park Rangers to scare off a Bear in the next campsite - that is the last time Chrissy will be tripping to the loo late at night and in the dark!

We had planned to see about sea trio to watch Orca, but apparently they had been sighted only the day before, and since they are transient in this area, we were advised that it would be several days before they would next be seen.   Instead we drove the length of the coast stopping off at beautiful beaches and quaint towns.   We mixed with Surf Dudes on the beaches and Monty made lots of new friends.  Early on there was a heavy sea mist, quite unlike any thing we had seen before, except in odd scenes from Jaws, but later the sun burned off the mist and we were treated to a glorious afternoon on the beaches.

Toward the end of the day we were strolling along Long Beach, far away from The Dudes, when we were joined by a Black Bear, strolling out of the sand dunes as if he had just been for a pee.  He was as surprised to see us as we were to see him.   Phil clamped the video cameras to his head and glanced round to see Chrissy who had jus completed the 100m dash in record time (apparently to save Monty's life).   Phil turned to film the Bear and it was gone.  It is the truth.  What an experience and we did not pay to see it and it was definitely not a man in a suit.

The final piece of news today is that we were informed by TravelPod, the host of our Blog, that one of our photographs had been  selected to be featured on the Front Page of the Website - not bad for amateurs!

Tomorrow we head for the ferry and into the USA, the journey across Canada has been outstanding and memorable.   We have seen so many sights that we will treasure.   British Columbia was a perfect place to mark our halfway point.

Army signals
I assume at the point of spotting the bear dad started making several unknown gestures signaling some sort of move forward, left then get low. You have to have been witness to these strange almost tribal hand gestures, I will just say badger spotting, saintbury!!!!
