Since Dubrovnik was the last key place I wanted to visit before getting to Romania I have embarked on a five day four country journey to get me there. My first stop on this journey is the city of Kotor, Montenegro, a 2 and a half hour bus ride from Dubrovnik. This was also the first stop on this trip I didn't have a place to stay already lined up. I wasn't to concerned abot this as I figured there would be plenty of people at the bus station more than willing to let me stay at there house for a small fee. Sure enough when I arrived Mihala was there to shepherd me into her father's taxi to take me to there house, which had rooms rented out to a couple of Japanese people and a trio of Brits.
Kotor is like a baby Dubrovnik, another walled city, but its setting at the base of the mountains in Southern Europe's deepest fjord is what makes it a fascinating location. Since I arrived around noon I headed straight out to walk around the maze of cobbled streets snd explore the tiny city. Within the city of 20,000 people there must be at least 10-15 churches dating from the 12 century onwards. Instead of visiting most of them I decided to buy 3 liters of water and get my heart pumping by climbing up the mountain to the Fortress to get a better view of the city from above. This got a lot of "thumbs up" reaction when I got back to the house since Mihala and her parents had never made the hour long trek up the mountain.
