Arrived in Belgrade late in the evening and it was like being back in Russia with the Cyrillic Alphabet. It was like ---"Okay, where the hell am I? Let's look at the street signs and orient myself, hmm, that looks like it could be Balkansa." After 30 minutes and a five flights of stairs later I made it to the hostel (should have taken me about 6-7 minutes). The hostel like many in Europe was just an apartment which had two rooms each with 14 bunk beds and a living room with a couple of couches. The guy showed me the room and I was immediately like "No way, I booked a private room" "Yes, this room is just for you" he said. It was a little weird sleeping in a room with 13 empty beds especially when I would go out in the morning and there were people sleeping on the couches because all the beds were full, oh well, maybe they should have booked ahead of time.
Belgrade's sights, a couple of Orthodox churches, the Citadel, and Tito's grave are easy enough to see in 1 day. The one museum I wanted to visit, the Nikola Tesla Museum was closed for a month, so I ended up going to the Yugoslavian History Museum, which ended up being a museum of silver gift items given to Tito by other heads of state. Since sightseeing was accomplished in the first day I had the next two evenings free to do what most people come to Belgrade to do --- go out in the evening. My evenings were spent with three guys from Scotland, three guys from Israel, and an American from Hawaii who were staying at the hostel. Since the Euro soccer tournament is in the quarterfinals we watched the Croat-Turkey and Russian-Dutch matches in the early evenings in restaurant/pubs on the walking street before heading to New Belgrade to hit various clubs that are on barges on the Danube River.
