Where I stayed
June 28, 2010 - Pirates 7, Blue Jays 6
The best of the 5 games that I've seen so far as 6 HRs were hit in the game and the game came down to the very end. It was the first game that I've been to so far where the visiting team won the game. As for the stadium, I can remember when it opened and it was considered an engineering marvel for it's retractable roof and adjoining hotel. Back in the early '90s when the Blue Jays were winning back to back World Series the stadium used to draw 50,000 a night while tonight they drew 17,000 which meant I had plenty of elbow room.
Prior to the game I had 2 things on my itinerary: 1. Visit the Hockey Hall of Fame and 2. Go up the CN Tower. The first of which, the Hockey Hall of Fame, was just down the street from my hotel. I lucked out since I arrived 20 minutes before they closed off the 2nd floor, which has the room that contains the Stanley Cup along with all of the individual awarded trophies. After I walked around the room a bit and had my picture taken with Lord Stanley's Cup everyone was kicked out of the room and escorted downstairs since the Hall of Fame committee was gathering to make the announcement of this years inductees. A couple hours later, not before buying a commemorative puck and pin of the Lightning's Stanley Cup in 2004, I walked over to the CN Tower, which is right next door to the Rogers Center. After paying the whopping $33 to go to the top (and I thought the $27 to go up the Khalifa Tower in Dubai was expensive) I headed up for a panoramic view of Toronto and Lake Ontario. What I have to say about the experience - I've been up it and can add it to the list of tall buildings and towers that I have been up, but $33 is way overpriced.
