Wadi Halfa is not a town anyone would choose to visit. Without the weekly ferry, it is difficult to see why it would even exist. There are no 'holy mountains', pyramids, temples, museums or anything particularly worth seeing. The closest I got was the train station: not a grand or atmospheric kind of place, but its desolation and sand-swept nature on the edge of town meant its appearance of not having seen a train, passenger or ticket for twenty years, did appeal somewhat to that part of what I find engaging and attractive.
I spent most of my time here though either drinking fruit juices from the stalls around town, or getting all my paperwork in order for the bureaucratic immigration procedures. Oh, and of course feeling upsettingly unwell. Get me to Egypt and a doctor...
