Well, after two manic, busy and smoggy cities, it was time for a little fresh air. So we've taken a bus up to the cameron highlands, once a resort for the british settlers who'd had too much of the heat... We're staying in a small town called tanah rata, on a plateu at around 6000 feet. The temperature here never strays from 10-20 celsius, which feels almost icy, even after only a week in southeast asia.

There's a bizarrely british vibe here - the climate lends itself to non-tropical fruits (loads of strawberries,) but the main crop is tea, introduced by those colonial brits. So we've been on a nice tour of the tea farm and factory, been on a hike through the highland forest where we saw carniverous 'monkey's pitchers' plants and wild orchids, and drank plenty of tea.

So, a nice relaxing day and a half in the highlands, doing not very much :-)

Bus tickets are already bought for Georgetown on penang, where we'll be staying briefly before moving onto thailand.

Selemat tidur,

Phil
